Essential Functions
The Assistant Dean is responsible for the academic, educational, administrative, and budgetary leadership of the Division of Teacher Education. He/she provides the academic leadership in teacher preparation for the division, college and university; serves as a member of the Dean's Administrative Council in the college; is responsible for setting direction regarding core courses, new and existing programs; for resolving student issues, concerns and complaints at the division level; and is responsible for monitoring the teaching and advising of approximately 44 full-time faculty and 190 adjunct faculty, including conducting annual performance evaluations and preparing promotion material.
Responsibilities
Curriculum development and promotion; course enhancements; course scheduling; working with faculty to create innovation instructional projects and partnerships; lead division efforts to assess student learning; monitor student enrollment by course and program area; encourage and facilitate online coursework and programs; participate in division and college recruitment and retention efforts; participate in marketing and promotion of division programs; actively recruit high-quality faculty; work collaboratively with the Associate Dean for Research to support and enhance faculty research efforts; expand and enhance mentoring for tenure-track faculty; assure that all students receive the highest level of services throughout their course of study; lead division's community partnership and outreach efforts.
Unique Duties
Qualifications
An earned Doctorate in Education is required, preferably in one of the Division of Teacher Education's Program areas.
Must be able to qualify for the rank of Associate Professor or above and obtain tenure in the College of Education.
Candidate must have a successful record of research and scholarship
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in an urban education environment is preferred.
