ASST PROFESSOR

Responsibilities*

Primary teaching responsibilities may include intermediate and advanced courses such as Color and Design, Typography, Web Design and Editorial Design with an additional focus on transitioning traditional graphic design courses into the current and future digital realm. Special consideration will be given to applicants who can also teach courses in online and web-based modes. Normal teaching load is 9 credit hours per semester. The candidate will also assist in overseeing adjunct instruction in graphic design and curriculum development in addition to sharing the advising load.

Required Qualifications*

Qualified candidates should have a terminal degree (MFA) in graphic design, visual communication design, other relevant advanced degree; and current or recent college-level teaching experience. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to and excellence in student learning, scholarship and service. Specifically, we seek candidates who enjoy interaction with students and exploring innovative methods of instruction. Applicants must be well versed in design theory, history, and criticism, and able to successfully incorporate technology in the classroom. Candidate will be able to demonstrate proficiency with industry standard visual communication media technologies as well as conduct scholarly and/or creative work in their chosen field. Service to the university community and discipline are also important to the department. Consequently, the successful candidate will be active in university and disciplinary service and be expected to embody our institutional mission of engaged citizenship. We also seek candidates who enjoy working in an open, collaborative environment. Primary teaching responsibilities will include intermediate and advanced courses with a focus on transitioning traditional graphic design courses into the current and future digital realm. Applicants should present a publication record of scholarly design research, exhibit leadership through involvement in professional organizations and community service projects, and show strong qualities of professionalism and collegiality.

Provide 20 examples of professional or graduate design work. If available, twenty digital images of design work created by students under your direction. Include a list of work indicating media, objectives and date.
