Description
The Healthcare & Science business of Thomson Reuters will be seeking applications for our 2012 Healthcare Summer Internship program in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This internship is designed for students currently working on a Bachelors program with an emphasis on Math, Engineering, Chemistry,Statistics or Economics, who are interested in gaining hands-on, healthcare analytic consulting experience and have an interest in population analysis of large data sets. We provide interns with the opportunity to explore the world of healthcare analysis, applying leading edge software tools to analyze the healthcare experience of Fortune 500 companies, health plans, Medicare populations, and statewide Medicaid programs. Working on a combination of team and individual projects, each intern will participate in a core curriculum and be assigned to a senior healthcare consultant to support individual learning objectives. Participants will have exposure to the highest levels of management and may be eligible for employment opportunities upon graduation from their masters program.
This ten-week internship program will concentrate on performing a common team project analyzing healthcare trends of both privately insured and public-sector populations. The project will entail literature review, analysis of a large healthcare data set of claims, and conclude with a group report and two presentations - one to senior management and separately to our analytic forum attended by our analytic consultants nationally. Participants will be trained in leading-edge decision support software and learn how to apply advanced analytic methods to large sets of claims data. Interns will receive an accelerated introduction to Thomson Reuters and to the healthcare analytic function. In addition to the group assignment, each participant will be assigned to a current client project. Candidates interested in database design and associated methodologies may choose this as an individual area of focus. Assignments are chosen in consideration of staff support availability, current customers, and individual participant interests. Individual progress is carefully tracked, visibility is high and interaction with senior executives takes place as a natural consequence of the projects that an Intern undertakes and as part of a formal program.
Candidates interested in employment upon both completing the internship and graduating from their masters programs, will be considered for opportunities in Ann Arbor and our other office locations nationally, in addition to individual customer sites.
