Description
Under general supervision, carries out a variety of human resources (HR) activities and assists in day-today administration of HR policies and programs in one or more of the following areas: staffing, employee & labor relations, compensation and benefits, training, employee engagement, performance management, personnel research, diversity, etc. May support assigned business units (BUs) in their application of HR policies and initiatives, or assist senior-level HR staff in these activities. This is essentially an entry level professional HR generalist job that entails exposure or assignments across a broad range of HR specialty areas. Incumbents work in accordance with existing policies & procedures, or specific instructions, but take on assignments entailing judgment and/or discretion to select from, or recommend alternative approaches.
- Acts as a partner to HR Team to formulate HR related plans that are consistent with the Corporation s and business unit s (BU s) mission and vision.
- Collaborates with HR team and professional / administrative staff to assist with plans to address business needs; executes initiatives and ongoing activities dealing with staffing, compensation and benefits, performance management, employee and labor relations, etc.
- Assist with the appropriate use of the HR service delivery model, HR policy and guidelines.
- Assist HR team with coaching leaders, and employees through employee-related matters.
- May assist with screening external candidates based on job relevant criteria.
- May assist with managing the design and implementation of temporary programs (i.e., Co-ops, interns, summer students, etc.).
- Solicits guidance and advice from senior-level HR staff as needed to ensure that appropriate recommendations and actions are carried out in accordance with Corporate & BU needs.
Qualifications
Minimum: Bachelor s degree in business (HR, industrial relations, management, accounting, industrial psychology or a directly related discipline (excludes human & social services disciplines); proficiency in MS Office sufficient to apply it with minimal instruction or guidance (this level of proficiency typically attainable through 1-plus year(s) of substantive experience with the applications).
Preferred:
- 1-plus year(s) of HR related experience (e.g. labor relations, staffing, employee relations, compensation & benefits, organizational development, etc.); experience can include work as a college intern in an HR based discipline; experience with Human Resources Information Systems (SAP or PeopleSoft preferred).
- Proficient verbal (and non-verbal), written and presentation skills; communicates clearly, with credibility and confidence.
- Analytical & problem-solving skills consistent with the ability to identify key issues from a broad range of alternatives, and recommend optimal solutions for various situations.
- Competent in multi-tasking (i.e. the ability to prioritize & manage multiple tasks, issues or projects that may include high-visibility initiatives and require innovation, teamwork & planning).
- Ability to work in a team and/or matrix structure, supporting multiple clients.
- Flexibility & the ability to work with shifting priorities; embrace new/evolving responsibilities.
- Copes with multiple demands from superiors, peers & client groups in a positive and even-handed fashion; displays a calm demeanor under pressure. Incumbents may engage in all or some combination of the activities and accountabilities, and competencies cited in this description, depending on the organization & role to which they are assigned.
