Position Overview

Responsible for supporting the design, development, and testing of prototype advances Li Ion battery systems for transportation applications. This person will be involved in projects from concept through to the implementation, testing, and handoff to production.

Primary responsibilities

* Knowledge in applying electrical energy to a HEV/PHEV/EV vehicle drivetrain
* Knowledge of energy converters, inverters, storage systems, energy storage system output related to electric drivetrains
* Conduct/complete DFMEAs, prototype control plans, review of supplier PPAP's and successful product validation testing
* Addresses design issues including cell/module/pack robustness, safety, aging, lifetime, thermal effects, material/shelf life, shock and vibration resistance and general suitability in various vehicle environments
* Working knowledge of electric drivetrain systems with high power, volt and current loads
* Developing test scripts for National Instruments and Vector CAN based test and data acquisition systems
* Lead in the build and integration of prototype battery systems
* Select appropriate materials regarding hazardous substance requirements, recycling, etc.
* Support Field service actions when required
* 10-20% travel expected

Specific Skills/Abilities

The position requires experience with high voltage battery systems, and battery test systems, Vector CANalyzer, and National Instruments data acquisition systems and programming.

Education/Experience

* Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering
* 2+ years or more in the field of battery systems or electric vehicle development
* Experience with Vector CAN tools, NI based data acquisition and control systems
* Experience with automotive testing requirements and procedures
* Experience with battery pack testing systems (AeroVironment, Bitrode, etc)
* Experience with the design and build of high voltage and low voltage wiring systems
* Experience with high/low voltage wiring diagrams and system schematics
* Hands-on experience supporting production and prototype builds
* Knowledge of control system components and software including sensors, transducers, and actuators
* Strong knowledge of general laboratory test equipment
* Training in standard quality disciplines (8D, FMEA, APQP, DOE, etc)
