DUTIES:

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System (VAAAHS) is seeking a Transportation Assistant to work within the Social Work and Community-Based Services department.

Incumbent will independently manage the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System's Rural Transportation Program. The Rural Transportation Program provides transportation at Government expense to Veterans and their attendants traveling to and from VA facilities for the purpose of examination, treatment and care. This will include correctly determining Veteran eligibility to utilize the Rural Transportation Shuttle.

The incumbent is responsible for communicating effectively to ensure the Program's success. This will include but not limited to: patients, family members, care takers, clinicians, volunteers, medical center staff, as well as the VAAAHS Executive Management Team.

The incumbent is responsible for collecting/compiling and entering all required data at the time of check-in and also prepares appropriate documentation and /or scheduling for the traveler according to the Rural Transportation Program guidelines.

The incumbent will make special arrangements for Veterans per physician documentation according to the Veteran's medical condition and/or preferences and will act as liaison between the Drivers and Veterans to insure that the shuttles are being used properly.

The Transportation Coordinator will be a critical member of the VAAAHS Transportation Committee and is responsible for all reports concerning this function.

The Incumbent will be the first line of contact with the Veteran and must be knowledgeable on a wide variety of subjects regarding the VA.

Incumbent will also perform other duties as assigned by the Beneficiary Travel Supervisor or designee.

Relocation expenses will not be reimbursed.

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday thru Friday (Days)

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

NOTE: Time-in-Grade Restriction - Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service.

One (1) year of specialized experience related to this position. Examples of specialized experience include: Calculating travel pay; prioritizing workload and claims activities; Resolving claims processing errors; resolving travel complaints; explaining patient eligibility for transportation (e.g. ambulance); making arrangements for patient travel; assisting with data entry of claims information for tracking purposes.

OR

Successful completion of four (4) years of education above high school level leading to a Bachelor's degree in any field. (MUST INCULDE COPY OF YOUR TRANSCRIPTS WITH YOUR APPLICATION PACKAGE)

OR

Equivalent combinations of creditable specialized experience and education as described above to meet the total experience requirements. Combination of successfully completed post high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. (MUST INCLUDE COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS WITH YOUR APPLICATION PACKAGE)
